Molasses Cookies
Several of Grandma’s recipe cards indicate the recipe came from other family members. This cookie recipe is credited to Margery (Wahlert) Grandpa (Homer) Artist’s sister.
The picture is from Rick Artist…and his comments on the outcome: Made another batch of molasses cookies yesterday, using Bre’r Rabbit blackstrap molasses. The smell & taste of the dough triggered a flashback to childhood, & I knew I was really close and on the right track! Out of the oven the cookies were quite good. The taste & smell were closer than any other recipe I’d ever tried, (pretty much spot on) but the texture was little crisper and not quite as chewy as I remembered (AND they lacked a certain grandmother’s touch)! Success to a degree—but you can never go all the way back. Nevertheless, I’ll be making these again!
